:Geruchten, dat klinkt raar voor mij. Geruchten? Hoe dan ook, onze beste schatting voor het echte minimum dat we nodig hebben in het komende jaar om de website draaiende te houden is 1 tot 2 miljoen dollar, afhankelijk van hoe lang en hoe snel het verkeer blijft groeien. Normaal gezien zijn we beperkt geworden in onze groei doordat de website traag reageerde gedurende de tijd dat we wachtten op de aankoop van nieuwe servers en de integratie ervan in het systeem.
:Ons _vastgestelde_ doel is het creëren en verspreiden van een encyclopedie met een hoge kwaliteit onder een vrije licentie voor elke persoon op aarde in zijn eigen taal.
:We weten dat we goed bezig zijn dat doel te bereiken in sommige delen van de wereld, en niet zo goed in andere delen van de wereld.
:Het is mijn voornemen dat we moeten experimenteren met enkele manieren waarop fondsenwerving hierbij kan helpen: bijvoorbeeld het voor sommige kleine talen inhuren van coördinators om moedertaalsprekers te vinden om aan het project te werken.
; 1-2 million USD is a big jump from the past budgets; is that kind of budget growth sustainable with the fundraiser model? : Well, that's an open question but I think so. Needs increase with traffic increases, but with traffic increases we have a bigger audience to ask for help. Hopefully those two things scale together reasonably well.
; Ward Cunningham was discussing a distributed wiki model at wikimania, has this avenue been pursued further? : I don't know of any serious technical work being done on a distributed wiki model, but I'm personally a skeptic about whether such a model would serve our actual needs. I'm open to ideas though. :-)
